[music] [applause] [music] Healthy foods [Music] Look at these pictures Just as Patrol gives energy to the car to help it move. Food that we eat gives us energy to carry out our work As patrol is to car. Food is to human body food.


Food-Fuel for the Body


Fuel for the body. All living things need food for their growth and good health. Plants prepare their own food while animals hunt for it. [music] Man eats vegetables, fruits, and nuts obtained from plants, either raw or cooked. He also eats animal products such as meat, milk, and eggs. Types of food.


Types of Food


Nutrients are useful substances in food that are essential for the growth and maintenance of our body. These are present in our food in the form of carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, and minerals. The chart shows the different nutrients and their functions. [music] Kinds of nutrients [Music] carbohydrates and fats. [Music] These are also called energy giving fruits. The sugar or starch present in wheat, rice, corn, potatoes, sweet potatoes, honey, and fruits are carbohydrates which give us energy milk. Ghee oil, butter, nuts, and cheese are rich in fats. [music] fats, when taken in the right quantity, are essential for good health. [music] Eating fried foods leads to obesity. [music] Proteins: The nutrients that help in bodybuilding are called proteins. Proteins help us to grow. [Music] They also help repair our body and replace worn out tissues. Growing children and people recovering from illnesses need more protein than others. Food items like beans, pulses that is dal, peas, meat, fish, eggs, and milk contain protein. [music] Vitamins and Minerals: Food rich in vitamins and minerals are called protective food. [Music] Vitamins and minerals. are required in very little quantities, but are nonetheless very important for the proper functioning of body.

Fruits like banana, mango, orange, and grapes [Music] and vegetables like spinach, carrot, and cabbage are packed with vitamins and minerals. Spinach and beet root help to increase the oxygen carrying capacity of the blood. Most citrus fruits like sweet lemon, orange, etc help us to fight cold and cough. [Music] while carrot improves our eyesight, water, and raw food intake.


Water and Raw Food Intake


[Music] Water water is an essential part of our diet since it helps in the digestion of food and excretion of waste matter in the form of urine and sweat. [Music] It also helps to maintain our body temperature. About 70 percent of our body comprises water. Water is present in fruits and vegetables in varying amounts. [Music] Most fruits contain large quantities of water raw food. The fiber in raw vegetables and fruits facilitates the movement of food through the food pipe and also helps in effective excretion of solid waste matter. For this reason, it is often advised to eat a whole fruit or vegetable rather than drinking its juice.


Milk is a complete food. We get milk from cows, buffaloes, goats. [Music] Milk also contains water to a large extent. Milk contains fats, proteins, vitamins, and minerals which make our teeth and bones strong. [music] Drinking milk regularly protects our body against infections and provides us much needed energy. [music] Healthy foods, a balanced diet.


A Balanced Diet


The human body needs various nutrients in certain specific amounts. A diet that contains all essential nutrients in an appropriate amount is called a balanced diet.

Food Pyramid: A balanced diet can be planned using a food pyramid. A food pyramid is divided into sections depending on the servings. That is the quantity of intake for different food items required for staying healthy. [music] Importance of cooked food.


Importance of Cooked Food


Many fruits and vegetables can be eaten raw, while dal, cereals such as rice and wheat, vegetables like potato, yam, snake, gourd, bitter gourd, brinjal, etc and animal products like meat fish are cooked oil, ghee, butter, water, salt, or sugar is added to improve the taste and flavor of the food. [music] Advantages of cooking: food becomes soft and easier to digest. [music] Food can be preserved for a longer time. Cooking also makes the food tastier. Most of the microorganisms are destroyed while cooking. [Music] Disadvantages of cooking: Most of the vitamins and minerals get destroyed if we cook at a high temperature.


Disadvantages of Cooking


Raw cabbage is healthier than cooked cabbage. Too much usage of oil, butter, or ghee makes the food very fat, rich, and thus unhealthy. The water content of vegetables gets reduced because of cooking. It is not enough to have a balanced diet. We must ensure that the food that we eat and the water that we drink are free of germs. Food that is cooked in a clean kitchen will be healthy and safe to eat. [music] A fly which sits on your food for a few seconds can leave many germs on it. These germs can make you sick. Water which is not filtered or boiled can have germs. [Music] These germs will cause diseases. Safe handling of food and water is necessary for good health. [music] Good food habits.


Good Food Habits


Wash your hands before each meal. Eat meals on time. Drink plenty of water, but only boiled or filtered water. Eat plenty of fruits and green vegetables. Do not eat food from roadside stalls as these are not hygienically prepared.


Avoid junk food [Music] Eat whatever is served to you. Do not be fussy about food. Trim your nails regularly. Dirt under the nails may contain germs When you eat. these will enter your body along with the food along with a proper diet.


Do regular exercise. [Music] Exercise will help you to digest the food. Don't read a book or watch Tv while eating. Avoid eating too many chocolates and toffees as these may lead to tooth decay. Chew your fo
